Dear PAPA,

I am writing you this letter,
With your smile envisioned on my mind.
9 long agonizing years have passed;
Since I last heard your gentle voice;
Since I last felt you by my side.

I vividly recollect every moment; every memory.
Flashbacks of sacrifices made to keep us happy.
Endearing visions of you,
Holding us close to your heart.
One intertwined family;
Thought nothing could break us apart.

Huh, daddy, do you remember your funny dance
Moves at our birthday parties?
Or when you used to impersonate “THE HULK”
To scare us off when we behaved badly?
How can I forget your so-called “5-star hotel”
Delectable cuisine?
Or the time when u stood up for me
When the neighborhood kids got mean?

AND SUDDENLY

Without any warning,
Without kissing us goodbye,
You heard the inevitable call of death,
So you had to comply.
Although you seemed to be serenely asleep,
We had to bury you beneath the sand.
My beloved father, never returning,
Far away in a solitary, dark, unknown land.

Losing you, sweet papa, has caused
a colossal emptiness inside.
A recurring nightmare; haunting us
No matter where we hide.
An open wound, tenaciously refusing to heal.
A crushing tragedy; an excruciating ordeal.

But don’t worry daddy, the lord has not forgotten.
He has filled us with faith and hope;
Enveloped us with his mercy and compassion.
And have you forgotten the diamond you’d left behind?
Our family’s backbone; our shining star;
Our beloved mother, without whom,
We wouldn’t have become who we are.

Life, in essence, is but make-believe.
One day life’s illusory barriers, which are keeping us apart,
Will crumple and concede.
It will be then, daddy that our paths will cross
And we shall meet.
Hopefully, with God’s consent, cuddled in your arms
Where I will once again breathe.
